Happy Birthday

First, some updates: Landed some housing on Whidbey Island with a really nice sounding lady. I guess her place is within sight of the ferry. It is a few minutes from the hospital, and a few more minutes to the surf break which apparently can be really fun with a good swell. We were allowed to contact our preceptors today about schedule, attire, etc. etc. so I should be finding out more about this rotation in a few days.

Second, a little taste of my surgery rotation was allowed today, as another student and I were able to observe two C-sections and assist the nurses with cleaning the baby, suctioning, taking the first set of vitals, doing an APGAR score, testing reflexes, and so on. It was amazing to watch both of these births from just a few feet away and it was certainly a well-rehearsed dance between the anesthesiologist, the 2 surgeons, the scrub nurse, and the "baby" nurse. After the initial assessment in the OR, we followed the baby to the nursery where a more thourough exam was completed. After the second C-section we ran back to school with just a minute to spare before our official Surgery Module started.

My brother, my sister-in-law, and my brother-in-law all have April 13th as their birthday. Today I witnessed 2 more people who will share this day as a birthday! What a treat.

Happy Birthday, Chris, Mindy, Gus, Baby X, and Baby Y!!!
